Pantry - Postoffice Food Drive Pictures 2017
Our thanks go out the volunteers who showed up for the Lemont Food Pantry Drive, we are blessed with giving workers. Dale Janssen, Carolyn Stelter, Curtis Stelter, Jana Stelter, Ron Walter, Dave Anderson, and the Englunds, as well as a scout from Troop 49 and his dad. We were able to sort 20 tons of food donated through the US Post Office in Lemont.
Jana Stelter was at church on Tuesday and saw a woman drive up to the back of the church. She was not a member, but she had a car full of groceries to donate. As Jana and Amy Cheehy helped her unload she mentioned she was from Lemont but heard of the problem at Joliet. The Post Office in Joliet had 50 tons of food donated in their city. Unfortunately, no one showed up to collect it. In a city as large as Joliet with many churches NO ONE bothered to avail themselves of free groceries. In a city with many hungry, poor people, NO ONE took the time to deliver free food to a church or pantry. The woman had heard about it on Facebook after the Post Office had announced free food for anyone who would show up.
She drove to the Post Office, filled her car, and drove to the only place she could think of that would put it to good use.
We are a very small candle burning in the darkness............ from Bill Stelter
